When a driver charges at your station, the fee that applies — and who pays it — depends on the payment method used. This article explains what we charge, why, and how it appears on your invoice.

How each fee works

Roaming charge cards

When a driver charges using a roaming charge card, a roaming fee of €0.03 per kWh is added on top of the roaming cost of the session. This fee is charged directly to the driver.

Scan2Pay and Tap2Pay

For ad-hoc payment methods (Scan2Pay and Tap2Pay), we charge you as the CPO a transaction fee of 3.5% of the transaction amount plus €0.15. This fee is not passed on to the driver — it's settled through your monthly subscription invoice, not per transaction.

Why is it set up this way? (PSD2)

The difference in who pays is driven by PSD2, the EU Payment Services Directive. Under PSD2, a selling company (in this case, the CPO) isn't allowed to add extra costs on top of the price for a driver paying with their bank card. In practice, this means we can't surcharge the driver for paying via Scan2Pay or Tap2Pay — the transaction fee has to sit with the CPO instead. Roaming charge cards fall outside this restriction, which is why the €0.03 roaming fee can be charged directly to the driver.

FAQ

Why am I paying 3.5% on Scan2Pay/Tap2Pay sessions?
Because of PSD2, we're not legally allowed to add card payment costs on top of the driver's price. The fee therefore sits with you as the CPO.

Can I raise my tariff to cover the 3.5%?
You're free to set your own tariff, but you can't apply a fee specifically for card payments. If you want to factor payment costs into your general pricing, that's a commercial decision on your side — keep in mind that raising your tariff also increases the price for charge card sessions.

Where can I see the 3.5% fee?
On your monthly subscription invoice, alongside your regular subscription costs.
