Grid-Aware Home Charging is an initiative of the grid operators Enexis, Liander and Stedin, in which E-Flux by Road takes part. On winter weekday evenings between 16:00 and 21:00, demand for electricity is at its highest. Participants don’t charge at home during those hours, which helps relieve the grid at busy moments.
The programme runs from 1 December 2026 to 28 February 2027. Taking part is free and you can stop at any time. Participants who meet the conditions are entered into a prize draw for three prizes of €400 in Bol.com gift cards.

Who can take part?
You can take part if you:
are 18 or older and live in the Netherlands;
charge your car at home, on your home’s electricity connection and under an energy contract for that address;
have a home charging station that is connected to the E-Flux platform and linked to your own E-Flux account. Public, business and shared charging stations can’t take part.
How do I take part?
Sign up using the form on the Grid-Aware Home Charging page and accept the terms and conditions.
Avoid charging between 16:00 and 21:00 on weekdays. You can do this in one of two ways:
switch on the automatic pause in your E-Flux dashboard which will become available on 1 December 2026, or
manage it yourself, for example by plugging in after 21:00 or setting a charging schedule in your car.
Charge as normal after 21:00.
Signing up and switching on the automatic pause are two separate steps. Signing up is what enters you into the programme. The automatic pause is an optional feature that just makes it easier.
How does the automatic pause work?
When you switch on Grid-Aware Home Charging in your E-Flux dashboard, we pause your charging station every weekday from 16:00 to 21:00. At 21:00 it starts charging again by itself. At weekends and outside peak hours, nothing changes.
Note: the automatic pause feature will only become available on 1 December 2026. We will provide further guidance on how to enable it closer to that time.
*This feature is still in a test phase, so it may not work with every charging station yet. If it doesn’t work for you, please avoid charging between 16:00 and 21:00 yourself while we fix it.*
Will my car be fully charged in the morning?
In most cases, yes. Between 21:00 and 07:00 you have ten hours to charge, which is enough for a full battery in most cars with a home charging station. If you know you need to leave early, you can always choose to charge during peak hours.
What if I need to charge between 16:00 and 21:00?
You always can. If the automatic pause is switched on, choose to charge anyway in your E-Flux dashboard. Your charging station starts straight away and you can charge as normal for the rest of that day. The pause switches back on automatically from the next weekday.
That day does count as a peak day for the prize draw.
How does the prize draw work?
You’re entered into the draw if you:
take part for at least 40 weekdays, and
charge during peak hours on no more than 1 in 10 of the days you take part.
For example, if you take part for 40 weekdays, you can charge between 16:00 and 21:00 on no more than 4 of them.
To reach 40 weekdays, sign up by early January 2027 at the latest. The draw takes place by 30 April 2027. A computer picks three winners at random, and they’ll be notified by email within two weeks.
Can I stop whenever I want?
Yes, you can stop at any time in your E-Flux dashboard. If by then you’ve taken part for at least 40 weekdays and met the 1-in-10 rule, you’ll still be entered into the prize draw.
Can I combine it with smart charging?
Yes. Smart charging looks at electricity prices or your solar panels and charges at the cheapest moments. Grid-Aware Home Charging looks at how busy the grid is and keeps 16:00 to 21:00 free on weekdays. You can use both, as long as you don’t charge during those hours.
Does it work with any energy contract?
Yes. It doesn’t matter whether you have a fixed, variable or dynamic contract. You’re only charging at different times, outside peak hours.
What happens to my data?
E-Flux doesn’t share your account details or charging sessions with other parties. The grid operator only sees the number of participants per postcode and the average charging power of all participants combined, per quarter of an hour.
