How do I activate my charge card?

The last step before you can use your E-Flux by Road charge card

Written by Gina ter Heide

⚠️ External charging cards only: This activation process applies exclusively to charging cards issued by E-Flux by Road. External cards (issued by other providers) cannot be activated via the E-Flux dashboard. If you have an external card that is not working, please contact the card's issuing provider directly.

Once you’ve received your charge card, you’ll need to activate it before it can be used. This extra step helps ensure that only you can use the card, adding a layer of security.

Charging cards must be activated before use to link them to your account, enabling functionality at charging stations. Without activation, the card remains in an "in transit" status and cannot be used.

Ensure that your shipping address is up-to-date in your account to avoid delivery issues. This will help prevent delays or misplacement of your charge card.

Troubleshooting guidance is available if you encounter issues during the activation process.

Why activation is required

Your charge card is inactive when shipped. Activating it:

  • Confirms your ownership of the card

  • Prevents unauthorised use

  • Links the card to your personal E-Flux by Road account

Option 1 — Via the dashboard

To activate your charge card, follow these steps:

  1. Go to My Cards in the left-hand menu

  2. Find your new card (status: Sent)

  3. Activate the card

*Please note: you cannot activate the charge card via the app. Activation must be completed in the dashboard.*

Option 2 — Via QR code

Scan the QR code on the flyer included with your charge card. This will guide you through the activation process. Once activated, the card is ready to use immediately.

Subscription timing

The subscription starts from the moment the card is sent, regardless of when it is activated. We recommend activating your card as soon as you receive it.

Why are cards no longer sent as active?

Previously, charge cards were sent already activated. Cards are now sent with the status Sent to give you control over when to start using the card.

Once your card is activated, it’s ready to be used at any compatible charging station.

If you encounter issues with receiving or activating your charge card, there are steps you can take to resolve them effectively.
