E-Flux by Road offers two methods for connecting charging stations to the E-Flux back office: purple SIM cards with built-in VPN connectivity, and white SIM cards or LAN/Wi-Fi connections that use the standard internet routing. This guide explains the correct configuration for each.
Purple SIM Cards (VPN Connection – New Method)
The new purple Road SIM cards are designed for secure communication via a VPN tunnel to the back office. This ensures a more controlled and reliable connection compared to standard internet routing.
When using purple SIM cards, the following configuration must be applied:
Back office URL: ws://ocpp-internal.road.io/e-flux
APN: road.io
These settings are mandatory for all new installations using purple SIM cards. The VPN connection is automatically established through the SIM configuration and does not require additional setup on the charging station itself.
Important: The new purple (VPN) SIM cards only work with security profile 1.
White SIM Cards & LAN / Wi-Fi (Existing Method)
White Road SIM cards and LAN/Wi-Fi connections continue to operate via the existing internet connection method.
For these connections, the configuration is:
Back office URL: ws://ocpp.road.io/e-flux
APN: m2m.services
This replaces the previous configuration:
ws://ocpp.e-flux.nl/1.6/e-flux
Summary
Connection type | Back office URL | APN |
White SIM / Wi-Fi / Ethernet | ws://ocpp.road.io/e-flux | m2m.services |
Purple SIM (VPN) | ws://ocpp-internal.road.io/e-flux | road.io |
Only new installations require the updated configuration. Existing installations remain unchanged.
