Requirements before you start:
Access to the E-Flux by Road dashboard with sufficient permissions
The charge point must be online and visible in your dashboard
A compatible firmware file downloaded from the charger brand's website (confirm the correct version with the manufacturer first)
How to upgrade your charge point's firmware
Follow these steps to upgrade your charge point’s firmware via the E-Flux by Road dashboard:
Find your charge point
In the dashboard, go to Charge points and search for or select the station you want to update.
Check the current firmware version
Click on Overview to see the current firmware version of your charge point. Note this version — you'll need it when contacting the manufacturer.
Confirm compatibility with the manufacturer
Contact the charger manufacturer to verify which firmware version is compatible with your model. Download the update file from the manufacturer's website.
Go to Diagnostics
On the charge point detail page, click on Diagnostics in the navigation tabs.
Upload the new firmware
Click Upload firmware, then select the firmware file from your computer. Wait until the file is fully loaded to the dashboard, then click Execute.
Check the status of the firmware upload
To monitor the progress of the firmware upload:
Go to the Commands section
Navigate to the Commands section on the charge point detail page to see status updates in real time.
Check the FirmwareStatusNotification
The FirmwareStatusNotification function will report the current status of the update. See the status types below.
Confirm the update via Boot Notification
After a successful installation, the charge point will reboot. Check the BootNotification in the Commands section — it should show the new firmware version. This confirms the firmware update has been completed successfully.
Types of firmware status notifications
There are six types of notifications you may receive during the firmware upgrade process:
Downloading: the charge point is downloading the firmware.
Downloaded: the firmware has been downloaded successfully.
DownloadFailed: the download failed. Contact the manufacturer or upgrade the firmware on-site.
Installing: the firmware is being installed.
Installed: the firmware has been successfully installed.
InstallationFailed: the firmware installation failed. Contact the manufacturer for assistance.
Alfen charging stations
Always use a “.fwi” file for Alfen. Try the A file first, and if that doesn’t work, try the B file.
